Conneaut Lake Park
The borough of Conneaut Lake is located at the southern end of the lake of the same name. The borough’s population was 626 at the 2020 census. It has a small airport and a marina on the lake. The former lakefront amusement park, the former Hotel Conneaut, is now in the process of being revitalized.
In 2022, developer Robert Joseph purchased the property from the Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park and announced plans to reopen it as a resort and amusement park with two boat storage facilities. The resort would feature a hotel, conference center and amusement rides and the Blue Streak roller coaster. A new restaurant and a bar would also be included in the project, according to a news release from the city. Joseph has been criticized by fans of the old amusement park who wanted to preserve its nostalgia.
On March 21, 2021, the Conneaut Lake Community Development Committee received a $375,000 state grant through the Economic Development Administration for restoration and further development of the Water Street and Fireman’s Beach areas in downtown Conneaut Lake. This is the largest amount ever awarded through EDA’s Investing in Main Street grants. The grant is matched with a 20 percent contribution from the borough. The funds will be used to develop and implement an arts-based community engagement process that will result in the design and implementation of sculptures at these locations. The NEA’s grant will fund the work of artist Amara Geffen, professor of art at Allegheny College and director of the Art & Environment Initiative of the Meadville area, who will lead this process on behalf of the community.
You can take a ride on the nostalgic Conneaut Lake Steamboat. The Barbara J is an older, open-air boat that can carry up to 50 people for a cruise around the lake and the surrounding islands. It is also available for private charters. For more information, please refer to the Meadville Tribune article in the Media Coverage section of this website. The cruise is a popular way to celebrate a special event or just spend some time with family and friends on the beautiful lake. The boat can be rented by calling 814-382-RIDE (7463). It is a fun, relaxing way to enjoy the scenery and the history of this wonderful little borough. conneaut lake concerts
